Sarah Petrich
Facilitator and Artist
With over 35 years experience within the art space and a varied knowledge on different mediums including crafts, I decided to pursue my dream, to create a community space where everyone could experience art in a supportive environment.
Working as a community support worker I found there was a need for an affordable and a professional method of demonstrating art, that needed to be inclusive and structured but still simplistic in nature.
I am passionate to share what I have learnt, connecting with the community, creating social interactions and improving mental health for individuals through the power of ART.

Why Art?
My first memory of art was at a young age, with my grandmother who painted on the verandah with me and that distinct smell of oil paint. My passion sparked again later in life after attending a secondary school that specialised in art providing me with the opportunity to exploring all different styles and types of mediums.
Whats Your Inspiration?
My grandmother was my inspiration by allowing me to express myself through art. Teaching me that everyone can be creative and that it wasn’t just about the artwork itself but the process of mindfulness and self reflection that shaped each masterpiece to be an individual display of self discovery.
What Does Art Mean To You?
Art is my meditation, a way to express feelings and emotions without judgement, a release from everyday life and a way to truly express my inner self onto a canvas.
Whats Your History In Art?
I grew up around art and it remained a constant in my life. While raising children, even if I wasn’t painting I was always creating other forms of art/crafts.
In 2020, I decided to do what I loved and make Community Arts my full time career.
Now I can share my passion with others and allow them discover the power of art in the same way my grandmother once taught with me.
What is Community Workshops?
Working in the community sector, I found the local community lacked affordable workshops where everyone could access quality art that was inclusive and designed for all abilities.
Community workshops was created for local groups to have us come to them at low cost. Community Arts has now provided services to a large number of local community groups including Care homes, Cancer Council WA, local government and schools.
